What is Hunting?

Hunting has been around since the beginning of mankind. These days hunting is a sport with a history of great tradition. Back in the day hunting was essential in the struggle of survival. Some of the first weapons used by early hunters are thought to be as simplistic as a pointed stick or a large rock. Primitive man would hunt in groups, by doing so the majority of the group would chase and corner an animal where the rest of the group would be waiting in ambush. Over time with the domestication of animals, hunting was not as essential to survival as it was in the beginning, but man still had the instinctive need to hunt.

Then came the age of black powder and with that was the birth of the firearm. With the advent of this technology the need to hunt in groups was not as essential as it was in the past. During this time, the use of domestic animals such as dogs were introduced to the hunt. This enabled the hunter to stay back and let the dog flush out prey.

These days hunting in this country is strictly a sport. The variety of game hunted ranges from big game like deer, elk and moose, to small game like rabbit, turkey and even squirrel. The use of modern ammunition and optics has brought the hunter a level of success that primitive man could only have dreamed of.
