Hunting Seasons

There are hunting seasons in every state for several different kinds of game. Many people think of deer when they hear hunting season. Others think of duck, turkey or pheasants. Even for many avid hunters there’s probably a few hunting seasons even they haven’t heard of before.

Some states have hunting seasons in an effort to regulate very specific population growth of some animals. Arkansas has hunting seasons for alligators. These permits are given at a random draw and require very specific guidelines be followed. Other states have special seasons for hunting and trapping beaver. Beaver control is necessary as their natural dam building instincts are cause of rivers and streams drying up and are necessary to hunt to control growth.

Many of the states have seasons for small game which consists of squirrel, rabbit, pheasant, and other game birds. Also states tend to have furbearing seasons to hunt for raccoons, fox, and even bobcats. These are very popular seasons as hunters generally hunt these animals to make money off their fur.

Most hunting seasons have very specific dates to allow hunting. Hunting outside of these dates is a major offense which can result in penalties, fines, and imprisonment. States generally regulate deer hunting season the heaviest as this seems to be the most popular season for hunting. There are some states that have open season year round on some animals such as coyotes and prairie dogs.

There are many different hunting seasons for many different wildlife. Whether you hunt for sport, profit, food or population control, there is sure to be a hunting season for you.
