Pheasant hunting is a sport which requires a lot of tactic and technique. It can also be a very dangerous sport. There are some things you need to be aware of before heading out on your hunting journey. Be sure to dress appropriately; do not head out of the house without thinking of the weather and how you are going to stay comfortable all day. After you get the correct attire, make sure you have the correct weapons, as different hunting requires different weapons.
The most popular time to pheasant hunt is in early November. Be sure you have a well trained dog out in the hunting field with you. Pheasant hunting without a trained dog greatly decreases your chance of getting hold of a rooster. Use your dog to pick up the birds scent and track the birds location. You can then use your dog to push the rooster closer to visibility when you get closer. Remember your dog gets hot, hungry, and thirsty too, so remember to pack extra water and treats for your sidekick.
Many hunters forget about the skill to hunting, and that is to remain as quiet as your can and to be invisible to the prey as you can. You never want to get out of your car and slam the door, or be hollering at your dog to come back when your hunting. Birds can hear loud sounds up to half a mile, and you do not want to alert them that you are coming. Use surrounding water and large trees to your advantage as your make your way through the fields.
