Hunting

Hunting is defined as shooting, pursuing, trapping, searching for or attempting to take locate or hide from game animals or birds. The different weapons used can include a gun, cross-bow or bow and arrow. It is up to each individual state to provide their own legal definition of hunting and also to define the different hunting seasons so they can manage the local wildlife. For most states, the definition is to go out into the field in an attempt to harvest food. However, you don't always have to shoot something to be hunting.

Take advantage of the the different hunting seasons. There are many to choose from, including deer, turkey and small game hunting. Try something different even if it means not bringing home a trophy. Of course, animals should always be hunted legally so check with your local game and fish department to find out when and what to hunt. Take pride in being a hunter and make sure you buy your license to help environmental conservation.
Today, most of the hunting that is done is for mammals, birds and a few kinds of reptiles. Some animals are hunted close to rivers because that is where it is easiest to catch them. There are many reasons for hunting, like recreation, culture, nutrition and economic. Hunting and eating your own food is nutritious and cheaper than buying meat at the store.

Hunting has been, and always will be, another of America's favorite past times and one that helps the environment thrive.
