Hunting for some is more than a sport, it is a religion. When their particular season is in, they take vacations from work and plan their life so there is no hindrance to being in the woods. There’s deer hunting, turkey hunting, quail hunting, duck hunting and other small game like squirrel and raccoon. All seasons are usually different within each State. Sometimes the dates range around the same time but a few days apart. There is a time for archery hunting, muzzleloader and firearm.
Each individual State sets the hunting calendar for its hunting seasons. These dates are set by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) or Wildlife Resources Agency (WRA). Each State publishes a hunting guide each year giving all this information. Federal regulations are also followed in making all hunting rules within each State. Turkey is one with a spring and fall season. Deer season opens early fall and goes through the first of the next year. Each State expects their regulations to be complied with by all hunters, regardless where they are from.
To give a general date range for some of the seasons, deer hunting with muzzleloader is usually between November 1st and 7th. Hunting deer with firearms opens November 8th through December 7th (Some States even go through the first of the year.) There are usually youth hunts set on special days on reserves or hunting camps. Turkey season may be from May 3rd through May 31st, and then again from September 15th to December 15th. Here again, each State makes their own regulations and expects them to be followed. Everyone 16 years of age through 65 usually must have a hunting license.
