Spring Turkey season is a favorite for hunters all over the country, but is especially anticipated in the South, where the weather is more pleasant and turkey hunting is tradition. Missouri and Alabama have the highest turkey harvest rates in the United States. Georgia also has an excellent reputation for this popular game bird. Some states allow a fall turkey hunting season as well, but most do not, protecting the female population because telling them apart is difficult in the Fall.
If you are a bow hunter, be sure try Texas' archery seasons for White Tail Deer, Mule Deer, and Rio Grande Turkey. All three game animals have a statewide hunting season from Sept 27th through October 31st. For gun hunting, Texas offers a very wide assortment of game including Antelope, Deer, Rabbit, and of course, plenty of Rio Grande Turkey. Perhaps you would prefer to hunt Javelina, or Blue Winged Teel, or maybe would you like to hunt using falconry? Texas is a good place for all these niches of hunting.
Bow hunting is also popular in Missouri, and here you are allowed to scout and plan all year long for the Fall hunting season. Missouri's bow season is one of the longest in the county, running from September 15th through January 15th. Missouri bow licenses allow deer and turkey of either sex to be taken. Bow hunters are also allowed to hold a gun license, and there are many private hunting clubs that can help you find the prime hunting locations.
You might also try Tennessee's wetland areas for waterfowl hunting in the fall. Canadian Geese, Ducks, Mergansers, Coots, and Rails, along with several other species of birds, are plentiful here and should provide excellent hunting adventures.
