The Hunt

There are several different types of hunts. There is a hunt that is strictly for trophy and these are usually guided by outfitters. Then there is the hunt that is necessary for food. In some countries this is the only way men get meat for their families. Some state parks hold hunts for population control of some animals; especially deer, although they don't really like to do this and would rather re-locate the animal.

Some people have a real problem with hunting because they don't consider it a sport and see no need for it in today's world. Others think it is just fine as a sport. Whichever side you are on, safety is the biggest issue in hunting. Whether you use a gun or a bow, all precautions should be taken to insure the safety of everyone involved. Be it deer, quail, geese or any other wild animal, you have to know where and how to go about getting them from the field to your home. You cannot, for example, go hunt geese with deer slugs. You wouldn't have anything left to eat. No, there are certain ammunition for certain game and unless you adhere to this the likelihood of you bringing anything home is very small. There is also bow hunting, which requires even more skill in tracking and downing the game. Compound bows are on the rise in sales and take a good eye to actually hit and down the game you are after.

If hunting is your forte, at least make sure you do it legally, with a license. Make sure you know how to successfully bring to ground your game. Above all, enjoy it for the sheer enjoyment of bringing home your kill, dressing it out and then successfully cooking it.
