Many hunters across the United States take pleasure in a good day of hunting their favorite game. There are many different rules and regulations on what times of the year and what game can be hunted. Hunting seasons are regulated by a state's Fish and Game Department.
Many states have different hunting seasons that depend on what weapon you choose to use and the gender of the animal. Bow season is usually separated from gun season for safety purposes. The state of Alabama has hunting dates for male deer hunted with a bow and arrow that range from October 15th through January 31st. The dates for hunting these deer with a firearm are from November 22nd through January 15th. Wisconsin hunting dates for wild turkey during the spring season are from April 15th to May 24th for both female and male turkey. The state of Tennessee's hunting season for waterfowl goes from November 28 to January 25th 2009, which gives hunters plenty of time to bag ducks or geese that are flying south during this time of the year. Some of these states (and many others) have a bag limit, which limits the number of animals you can kill during the given season times of the year.
Although it is not necessarily used for sustenance in modern times, hunting has become a traditional pastime that is shared by families all around the country. However, regardless of how long you have hunted or how well you practice safety, it is important to be aware of hunting seasons and licensing regulations. Check with your local game commission for more information.
