The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines hunting in several different ways. One is to be in the pursuit of game, while the others refer to mechanical definitions. For our purposes, we shall use the first definition. Since the beginning of time, the man has been the one to hunt down and bring home the bacon. However, hunting is now enjoyed by men and women alike. It is an art that is developed by hours of practice, whether it is by gun or bow or fishing pole. It takes a good aim and a desire to pursue and overtake one's prey. Society seems to associate hunting with recreation, but in the past, it has been for sustenance, food, trade and many other things.
One may also implement their hunting skills in the pursuit of vermin such as mice, and rats. Game animals are animals that one can hunt for food and apparel, or to have as trophies. In fact, there are places one can go specifically to acquire a trophy animal. The Wildlife Management of the United States also enables one to hunt to maintain the growth of certain species. Fishing is considered hunting as well, for it is the capture of fish. In some cases, there are species that are protected from capture, killing, or keeping. If one were to go hunting for something that is legally endangered or is prohibited from capturing, it is called poaching. Poaching carries a high penalty with it.
It is not always an easy task for a hunter to successfully hunt down and capture their prey. If they are hunting in the traditional sense, it often entails walking through heavy brush, swamps, and dense forestry with no guarantee that they will be successful. For others, hunting is a time for fellowship with their friends. Whatever the reason, and whatever animal is being hunted, it is a great experience, even if you don't have anything to show for it but memories.
