Hunting Safety

There are a lot of common sense rules for hunting safetly. When dealing with deadly weapons, it’s very easy to injure or kill something that you weren’t aiming for, such as another hunter, or worse, someone who isn’t hunting at all.. So here are the basic rules of hunting safety.

Always handle firearms and archery equipment safely. This includes gently handling ammunition or arrows, knowing how far those shots will travel if you miss and what is on the other side of your target. Never point a deadly weapon at something unless you intend to kill it. Always safety your weapons until the instant you shoot it and immediately after taking a shot. Never transport or store a loaded weapon and always make sure that they are out of the reach of children.

Another rule of hunting safety is to be as visible as possible. This includes wearing high visibility vests or hats, so that other hunters can see you. This will keep another hunter from mistaking you for an animal. Along with this goes the rule to stop hunting when you can’t see anymore, so when the sun goes down it’s time to go in. While you may have night vision equipment, others may not, and while you may not shoot something by mistake, they might.

Hunting safety is essential to an enjoyable and successful hunting trip. No one wants to cut a trip short due to injury or worse, so if you keep these hunting safety tips in mind, you will lessen that chance. Also many localities offer hunting safety courses through the local game and fish departments. Check these out before you head out. Safe Hunting!
