Hunting Seasons

Hunting seasons are geared toward whichever animal you decide to hunt. Animals react differently to the sun’s energy. The Game and Fish Commission also regulate this aspect of hunting so there is not always an ‘open season’ on wildlife. If they did not regulate this, wildlife would become extinct.

Most hunting seasons usually are more active in the fall, winter and summer. Summer does not make for a good hunting season because of the heat produced by the sun. Fall is usually the best time of year for hunting. The wildlife instinctively knows that winter is coming and is more active. They are more active because they are preparing for the coming winter. Winter is usually not as good a time to hunt as fall because the animals will usually take cover and ride out the storm. Some hunters follow the phases of the moon. Some believe it is better to hunt when there is a full moon or a new moon. They believe that the earth and moon’s pull toward each other has an effect on the feeding activity of some wildlife. When you figure out what season you want to hunt, then you have to decide whether the best time of the day. Sometimes you will want to get up early or you might camp out overnight. It generally is not a good idea to hunt at night. Hunting at night could be very dangerous.

Hunting seasons are normally determined and set according to local Game and Fish Commission Offices. This information can usually be found on their website.
