The 2008 hunting season is upon us and it should be a safe and enjoyable one. For the safety of all the hunters, be aware of your surroundings. Every year brings a new generation of hunters young and old alike who enjoy the sport of hunting. As this season opens, some states have made substantial changes to some of the rules and permits. Some restrictions on hunting devices have changed. These will vary from state to state.
Texas has added several counties to the mule deer season in the northern panhandle region of Texas. The counties of Sherman and Hansford have 16 days of the mule deer season beginning November 23, 2008. The counties of Gaines, Martin and the east portion of Andrews are being added to the southwest region for 9 days of the mule deer season beginning on November 23, 2008. Texas has adjusted the age limit for Hunter Education Certification from 12 to 9 years of age. The early teal season has remained the same statewide this season.
Hunters looking to bag the gigantic deer, elk, bison or antelope visit the majestic state of Montana. With the prospect of getting veteran hunters, Montana is offering a veteran’s discount. The antelope numbers are up this season. The wildlife and park officials confirm there will be a larger assortment of antelope.
The state of Maryland has prohibited permanent tree stands or stationary blinds. All tree stands must be detached from the trees at the end of each day. Maryland has made numerous changes to their archery regulations, with some of the unlimited permits now to have a limit on them.
