Hunting Laws: An Absolute Necessity

Hunting, a time-honored tradition carried out throughout the United States of America, has always been a risky business. Let's face facts: Thousands of citizens will be taking off into the woods and other areas of limited visibility with high-powered hunting rifles designed to kill instantly. Many of the hunting regulations set up in the United States are set up to prevent those horrible accidents that seem to happen every year. Also, with some species of animals that were formerly free to hunt becoming protected, laws and regulations are necessary in order to protect those species.

One major form of U.S. hunting regulation is evident through the enforcement of hunting seasons; specific times, days and weeks in which a hunter is allowed to travel into the wilderness and hunt. These seasons differ depending on the state in which the person intends to hunt, as well as the animal itself. One of the things that differ between the states pertaining to hunting seasons is the bag limit, meaning the number of a certain animal a hunter is allowed to harvest. Some states have an over-population problem for some animals, so their bag limits will generally be higher than in those states who have fewer numbers of that animal. This is meant to protect the species overall so they do not face extinction. Failure to adhere to these regulations will result in stiff fines, revocation of license and possibly jail time.

One of the hunting laws that are meant to prevent human injury in some states is the requirement to wear hunter orange in order to increase visibility. Some animals such as deer are color blind, so this gear shouldn't hamper a hunter's ability to remain concealed from their prey, but at the same time allow other humans to spot them from hundreds of yards away. While hunting is meant to be an enjoyable experience, it is the hunter's responsibility to know the U.S. and state regulations of the hunt before taking to the field.
